Nicholas David – 6 Days New | Columbus, Ohio Newborn Photography

You guys remember katie+dave, one of my favorite maternity sessions ever? Well, their sweet newborn baby nicholas has arrived and is making his debut on the JBP blog! I fell in love with this tiny little human the minute i laid eyes on him. How could you not?? All these sweet newborn photography sessions aren’t doing much to help my baby fever but i love every single second of it. Baby nicholas was a dream to photograph. He stayed awake long enough for us to get to know each other a little, then drifted right off for the rest of the afternoon.

oh katie, you are so beautiful and i just LOVE this sweet image of you and your sweet boy. a few times i asked katie to relax her smile a little bit and give me more of just a neutral expression.. her response, “i just can’t stop smiling”. Is that not just the sweetest thing??lastly, check out this peek into the nursery!! i’m obsessed! Dave’s mom painted that dresser! how amazing is that?? i adore the colors (duh, everyone knows i love yellow) and all the details, the chandelier! Not to mention that sweet sweet baby on the changing pad!

katie+dave, i totally love you guys. You’re absolutely the best. Thank you a million times for letting me spend the afternoon with you and trusting me with your baby boy’s first photo session. I hope you love these images as much as i do! xxJBZ

tell us a little about your birth story:

Our “birth day” was very fun – we were both so excited! Mommy’s water broke at 4:30am, we checked into the hospital at 8:30am and our little Nicholas was born at 4:34 that afternoon.

We had the most patient, knowledgeable and kind nurses — the entire staff at Riverside was amazing, they made Nicholas’s birth and our hospital stay very special.

Even through the few hours of “rough” labor, we both appreciated each & every moment. There were a lot of tears & smiles and felt so much love from our family & friends.

thoughts on becoming parents (unexpected joys/challenges etc):

The amount of love that you feel is overwhelming — even the challenging times are special because we are learning about our little guy and what he needs to be happy.

He is the most important priority and every day is a learning experience.  The unexpected joy is spending time just holding him and watching him,

I think the biggest challenge is the fact that he’s growing up so fast – he changes every day (time flies!).

what ‘must haves’ should expecting moms make sure to have in their hospital bag?

Your camera to document those first wonderful moments. I also brought my own pillows, which helped my stay in the hospital be a little more comfortable!

most helpful baby product or shower gift as a brand new mom:

we loved the gifts that were “mommy’s favorite” products that other mom friends had used and loved.. like their favorite diaper rash cream, gas drops, burb cloths, etc.

It was the best way to try different products that were mommy recommended.

best piece of advice given to you: to trust your gut, your own instincts on what you or the baby needs.. and to sleep when the baby sleeps 🙂

best piece of mommy/daddy advice to others:

Communicate with your partner constantly — there are so many emotions, especially those first few weeks that your partner needs to know what your feeling, how they can help or what you need.
You are each others biggest support and need to be there for each other, so you need to communicate and find time & ways to appreciate one another!
Write down special moments (and facts, like weight, milestones, etc) because time flies by so fast!
